Vanlife in Andalusia (South Coast of Spain)

Everywhere I go I feel like I say WOOWWWW! But oh my goodness sunshine in January was absolutely incredible!!! Having lived in Lancashire for the past 6 winters where it rarely goes above freezing, feeling the sun beaming on my face on the most amazing beaches is a feeling I have packaged up and will treasure always!

Andalusia is pretty huge. We didn’t go into the mountain range or to any of the towns that are nestled up there because it was around freezing at night and about highs of 10 during the day and we were on mission winter sun. So safe to say we will definitely be coming back to explore all the other beauties of this incredible region.

Stats

  • Start point: Seville
  • End point: Isla Cristina
  • Total kilometers: 646km
  • Total days: 15
  • Nights at campsites: 1
  • Nights at free spots: 14
  • Money spent on day parking: 0 Euros
  • Times asked to move on: 0 (woohoo!)

Things to do

Apart from sitting and soaking up the sun wherever possible, there are tons of things to do in Andalusia. If you want a city break, Sevilla is absolutely stunning. And if you want chilled days at the beach nearby some beautiful towns where all of the buildings are painted white, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

We spent most of our time on the Costa de la Luz which is a windsurfing hotspot. We managed to get a few surfing sessions in but it wasn’t the best conditions at the time. So we took the time we had here to slow life right down and enjoyed reading books in the sunshine.

I also think Tarifa deserves its own section on here beacause of how amazing it is! It is vanlife paradise. The place of our dreams! Tons of self built campervans, a very very chilled vibe, and a beautiful town with loads of independent shops. You can even see Morocco on the horizon!

How affordable is it?

Supermarkets are stocked with fresh veg at a very affordable price and fuel was 40 cent per litre cheaper than back in the UK! We had to pay the odd 3 or 5 euros to sort out all the fun stuff like emptying grey waste and wee at petrol stations but you can easily wild camp for free.

Driving a campervan or motorhome in Andalusia

It is an absolute dream. The motorways are really well connected, roads are wide enough, and parking spots are really spacious.

Would we go back?

We are already planning to go back at the end of the year! It was full of so many lovely people, the scenery was awesome, and the sun was more than welcomed. I had no idea what to expect in this region but I think you can tell by the high praise, it exceeded all expectations.

Highlights

  • Winter sunshine
  • Beautiful beaches where we were often the only ones on the beach
  • Very affordable
  • Free spots for campervans everywhere
  • So many awesome trails for running

Lowlights

  • Hmm stuggling to think of any. I guess I wish we stayed for longer!

[…] To Sagres – yes 100 times over. Otherwise I wouldn’t go back to the Algarve. Glad to have been there and experienced it but I preferred Andalusia. […]
