Vanlife at a HGV (truck) stop

Vanlife at a HGV (truck) stop

So up to this point we’ve wild camped quite a bit. And on Park4Night (the app we use to find spots to sleep) we usually look for the nature spots. But as we found ourselves in the New Forest, lets just say the choice of spots were limited. We are pretty happy to choose a campsite in these circumstances but they were looking to be ~£35 a night which is way more than we are willing to pay (given we have a completly off grid van). So, we had a choice to drive even further, having driven for 2 hours already, or choose a HGV stop. We were pretty sleepy so we chose HGV.

We rocked up to the parkup and it felt weirddd. We were surrounded by lorries and it was noisy! It was the first time me and George looked at each other like.. is this what we sold our house for?? But we reminded ourselves out of all the times we’ve wild camped, this was the first stop we had where we felt like this. And you’ve got to experience all kinds of spots right?! Living your dream has to have days where you’re grounded to reality! Then makes you really appreciate the good days.

But actually staying here, minus the odd rumbling from a lorry setting off on their journey, was great! We stayed pretty stealth with the doors and curtains closed, cooked dinner, and had a great night sleep! We felt comfortable nestled amoungst the lorries, and set off to Dorset at around 7.30am to follow the secret stealth rule book – arrive late, leave early! And of course, NEVER leave any mess.

P.s. not sure why I’ve gone American here and used truck instead of lorry but it just sounded way cooler. 😂
